You know you are getting old when you are seeking ways to better yourself. I have come to this realization lately. I have been considering changing the way I think about eating to more plant-based foods and less meat. I think the extra time spent at home during COVID has me rethinking a lot.

I remember when my father was my age. He was doing the same thing. He questioned what he was eating, how much exercise he was getting, his faith, his relationships, and his work schedule. Do you think it is an age thing? Is it when you hit over the 50 marks you realize you have a limited amount of time to make a difference in your life and the life of others? Why does it take so long to realize this? Why are we not aware of the importance of eating and health before we have created bad habits?

When COVID first hit all, I heard was where a mask and keep a six-foot distance between yourself and other people. They said the elderly and health compromised people were most susceptible to succumb to the virus. With all of the doctors on the television, I never heard one doctor speak up and say, “this is your time to make the changes in your life”. Everything about the virus we had no control of. What we did have control of was what we did during the quarantine. I decided, along with my neighbor, to start walking. Walking was a great way to get out of the house for a little while every day along with burning some of the extra calories I was consuming. It really helped my mental health by seeing the outdoors and breathing in the fresh air. I believe this is when I started thinking about the changes I want to make. I sure hope I am not the only one who used this time to rethink their life. By the signs of the animals who have been adopted – I do not think so. If I didn’t already have so many fur babies, I too would have been adopting another. Life always throws a curveball just when you think you have it all figured out. I like that!
